Hi,

So, we got a 6 week old rescue pup, he's a runt. First month of his life he was not getting enough food, plus he also had some pretty serious worm problems. When we first got him (4 weeks old), we fed him a mixture of formula and crushed dry food 4-5 times per day about 1/2 cup each time. In the last few days we have been feeding Misha 3x per day a mixture of crushed dry food and canned food, also 1/2 cup per serving. He devours it within a minute and wants more. My question is, how much food should he get on average per day? Because of the circumstances do we need to feed him more food?

We have decided to go with Blue Buffalo brand.

Every serving is a mixture of Blue Wilderness with Red Meat dry food and Turkey Chicken canned food.

He gained about 2 lbs in 2 weeks.

Thank you!

Masha & Misha

Masha, welcome to the forum and thank you for rescuing you new fluff ball. Your little guy is probably just hungry and feeding pups up to one year of age 3 cups a day with quality food should be fine, by increasing his food watch for a few things 1-if his poops are soft or runny he may be eating too much cut down slightly on the food. 2-if the vet feels his weight is too much or too little adjust the amounts. When adjusting try at an 1/8 to a 1/4 cup adjustment per meal, and feeding until a year three times a day should be fine too. Giving treats here and there through training should keep hunger at bay, in between meals. Hope that helps and perhaps some one else has a few more suggestions. Good luck with your new, precious pup.

Thank you for your input, MiyasMomma! Reading your comment assured me that we are on the right track and that we are not starving him haha Smile
