I'd like start working with my 6mo old husky puppy, Penny, on beginner pulling training, with the intention of starting to take her out on in the spring / summer on my bike (and next winter on skis). Right now I just have a walking harness (one of the front-attachment harnesses), so I'd like to get her something similar to what she'll be wearing when we go out on the bike or skis.

Ultimately I will probably end up with one of the alpine outfitters custom urban trail harnesses, but she obviously still has some growing to do (although I'm not sure how much more; this is my first husky - she's about 35lbs now, but definitely looks like she has some height / length to gain). I was thinking of maybe the adjustable urban trail harness alpine outfitters makes, with the intention of just getting a custom one once she's full grown (and using the adjustable one as a backup / spare).

Any other suggestions would be welcome though

Thanks Very Happy

I'd be very careful starting her out this early, and if you're going to do it make sure it's under the guidance of your vet. Since she's still growing, her growth plates are open and can be damaged by too much running or pulling.

I'm waiting on my Alpine Outfitter stuff, but for now I'm using Ruffwear harnesses with my dogs. You aren't going to get the same feel as an x back with those, but they are good al purpose harnesses. We use the Palisades pack system, but if you don't want the pack you can just get the webmaster harness.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

I won't have her actually pulling anything, just want to start working with her on the commands in a harness different from her normal walking harness.

What I have done has been to walk my dog in a store , like petsmart or any other dog friendly store, at my side and teach driving commands as we walk the isles. When she started getting to know what each sound was then I let her walk ahead of me and give the appropriate command for right or left (gee or ha) and there you have it. I think it helps in a store because it's like a tunnel and it may be more understandable to the dog this way. Try it and see if you like it.
