PostSubject: New husky on the block   New husky on the block EmptyMon Jul 27, 2015 12:37 pm

So yesterday morning while I was walking Mylo down the street…I noticed a red husky four houses from mine. We went to go se of course and it's a red husky girl. Doesn't have a proper collar and doesnt have a name tag. She is tied up to the pole of the fence.. Poor little girl should be loose running around there. I brought her some water this morning and she drank it up! I took a stick and pulled the little bowl to the fence. I want to steal her and spoil her! It's really hot right now over here..it was 100 degrees yesterday, it felt like a little more than that. My car said 102.

Here she is this morning, I'm calling her Ember.

I hate that so much, That poor baby needs some spoiling! 104 is WAY too hot for any dog to be tied up outside!

Let's steal her! I will fly to Houston right this minute and we will bust her out!

Tyler, I haven't been back to Houston since I moved over here - I'd be real inclined to take the trip over -- shoot, it's only about 600 miles. (( Well, okay, 655 by Google Maps, but who's counting? ))  and I *really* do want a red!  Let's see who can get there first, eh??

Actually it could be a fun trip.  My two haven't seen water - as in the Gulf of Mexico - that could be a real fun trip.

Seriously though, Dave, what are the chances you could set up a play date with the owner since those two definitely want to play! That'd give you a chance to, maybe, educate the owner a little. It was so cuter watching them bow and bounce but that fence just kept getting in the way. I agree that anything over 100f is way too hot for a dog to be outside, especially without a good supply of water available.  (( <grin> you might also see if that little girl is up for adoption ))

Yes, *I* have an obsession with reds! I want one!!!

She is very cute. If the situation doesn't change, you may want to contact animal control. There are very few things that are required to not be considered animal abuse, usually adequate water and shelter. But it sounds like this girl may not have either. It doesn't look sunny in that picture, but does she have any kind of protection from the elements like a dog house or canopy?

Looks like I'm at 972 miles and a 15 hour drive... If I go 95mph the entire way, I might just beat you!

I hope the gulf is prettier in texas, because I know I hated the gulf when I lived in Mississippi. I did however LOVE the gulf from mexico. Ah mexico... the land of chips, salsa, and coronas...

I will never understand people who buy a dog to leave outside. What is the point of owning an animal you don't want to interact with. My parents neighbors have 4 husky mixes that are all tied up on maybe 15 foot cables and they are spaced out just far enough to not be able to touch each other. Three of them are puppies from the same litter and the other is the mother. He will come outside once or twice a day and give them food, pet them on the head, then go back inside. It can get up to 100 here, but what's worse is when it gets below 0 during the winter. They are more lab than husky, so you know those poor babies are freezing. My mom is not an animal person at all, but she wanted so badly to bring them inside one night when it was -15f. They were curled up in piles of snow shaking like leaves. It just sickens me.

I just don't understand it. Why own them if you don't want to take care of them?

I agree with Sara I think you should consider calling animal control. Maybe try talking to your neighbors first though and see what's up? They could be honestly clueless. Or it could be a misunderstanding.

Ugh, I think I read too much, but calling animal control may not be the "safe" option for the dog. Totally agree as far as the owners, who may need a ticket or fine to make them more responsible, but unfortunately I believe Houston is an area of high kill shelters. It makes me infuriated, to do the right thing may jeopardize the animal you want saved. I do know that Texas Sled Dog Rescue.org is located in Houston, or contact Texas Husky Rescue.org, located in Carrollton, they me be able to help in this type of situation, too give you advice on if contacting animal control is a safe option. I may be inclined, like the others to go talk to the owners. It is far to hot to have a dog out with no water, and no shelter. She is an adorable little girl, so I hope you can give her the help she may need.

Renee, Houston is indeed one of the very high kill centers. Even worse are the outlying cities (Rosenberg / Spring / etc) where people bring their dogs to drop them off "in the country". I lived in Rosenberg for a while and the place that most dogs got dumped was less than a mile away from both Ft Bend County and Rosenberg kill centers.

TexasSledDogRescue is almost always backed up but might be willing to send someone over to talk with the owner.

Al, indeed they have their hands full, but I was leaning towards Dave calling them for advice, perhaps they would know how he can go about keeping this dog safe, and maybe getting the owners better educated.

Woah I wasn't expecting a lot of response to this post!
But yeah I absolutely hate seeing that little girl out there tied to that pole. All that is there to block the sun is that big tree she is under. I'm gonna watch the situation...today is the 2nd day I see her there. Those same people have a little schnauzer looking dog that isn't outside all the time. I came home last night and she was there on the same spot and the little schnauzer dog was there with her. I'm gonna make it a habit of bringing the husky some water in the morning. I poured her a bottle of water and she drank it all non stop! She probably drank it all for thirst and survival in fear that she won't get more... She should have plenty of water available at all times! I've never talked to those people but they have seen me with Mylo cause I walked all around the street and one time that little dog was loose and came chasing Mylo. I would love for Mylo to play with the husky girl and ask them where they got her from and why. And maybe make an offer... If I had to describe her..she is curious and timid. I gave her a little treat by hand and she took it very gently.
I know about texas husky rescue and texas sled dog rescue, I check out their site frequently.

Sssstopp, I wouldn't mind adopting her at all.
Fell the looks of it I bet they got her just to make money off her...
When I come back in the house with Mylo I just think of Ember out there..

She looks young in the video. Is she a puppy or does she look mixed? She is too cute! I'm betting they would part with her, and Mylo looks like he likes her. He needs a little sister... Wink

P.S. I LOVE playing devil's advocate... Twisted Evil

Circumstances suck but it's still a very cute video. From the angle you are shooting from, Mylo reminds me A LOT of...wait for it...Kohdi! (Yeah, not Mishka, haha) the pulling though, yeah, totally Mishka, LOL.

I just love Mylo, he's adorable! Be awesome if Mylo and Ember (cool name btw) became bestest buds Smile

@Artic_wind

Awww really? Haha. In the colors I do see some Kohdi in Mylo but in size I see him ending up more like Mishhhh.
"Embers" coat is very different from Mylos poofy furry self lol
I'm not letting Mylo too loose on so e won't get too crazy there lol
I should've kept the name to myself hehe my girlfriend is actually the one that came up with it. She's the one with the cool names. She's the one that came up with Mylo (MyLove) too. I wanted him to be "Leonard" but Mylo just felt better haha.
And yeah I'm waiting for the right moment to talk with the owners of her. Like I'm passing by and they are out or something. I just came home tonight and we walked by and she was there laying down by the tree and noticed us.

In the colors, yeah, they're similar, but it's mostly in the coat itself...Kohdi and Mylo, to me, have the " got their paw stuck in a light socket" look, haha, like Kohdi's fur kinda stands up whereas Mishkas kinda lays down, and their tails! Mylo and Kohdi have the same plumy tail, but yeah, def a Mishka in size, the "fun size" huskies Smile

Leonard huh?! Wow! Wink it's cool with the meaning of Mylo!

Awww, well atleast she has you guys close by if she needs something. Smile

I would document every time I walk past that dog and it doesn't have water (like taking a time stamp picture of her with empty bowl) so if you do have to have animal control step in you have evidence to back them up. Let them know if they do decide to seize the dog that you would be willing to potentially adopt or foster (if you are interested) in order to keep her out of one of the kill shelters.

Today when I passed by in the morning, I finally saw a bowl with food (probably crap) and a bowl topped with water! still tied to that fence pole and by the big tree...still totally not fair for the pup.
