Hello everybody!

Allow me to introduce you to Sky.

Hello from Georgia! Please meet Sky! IMG_5878

I rescued her from a trip to the pound a few weeks ago. She'd been abandoned. Our best guess is that she'd been taken on a one-way road trip and left, and that she'd been on her own for several weeks. A friend of the family gave her some food, but had no way to keep her, so they sent around some messages trying to find her a home.

I haven't had a dog in twenty years, but I just couldn't say no.

Here she is, on an improvised leade for the first time with me.

Even though she's home, she still has separation issues and nightmares. I'm sure those will sort out with time and attention. We're working on a lot of things, and I'm looking forward to doing my reading here.

Welcome to the forum! I don't know how someone could abandon such a sweet face. At least she's in a better place now. Enjoy the journey.

Thanks everybody, for the warm welcome!

Based on the clues we were able to put together, the prior owner drove her about two hours by highway to abandon her.

She's pretty happy here with me - though we both have a lot to learn and a lot to work on and improve. She has a lot of separation anxiety and doggy nightmares. Plus she went into heat as soon as she started getting regular meals, so it's been quite a whirlwind for us both!

Thank you all for the warm welcomes!

Sky goes to the vet tomorrow for her snip & chip. It's going to be a big, tough day for her, but after that she'll be all set, and have a home for good!

That's great news!! Don't get too nervous on her surgery, I am sure she will be out of it the first day or two. Also wonderful on chipping her. Good luck and update, love to see more pics of her.

I'm entirely confident in my vet. We've been going to her for years and years.

I'm just concerned that Sky's abandonment related anxieties are going to go nuts. I know she's going to think it's happening again, and she'll wonder what she did wrong.

This has to happen and she'll get through it alright. It'll just be a tough day.

This is going to sound hokey, but bring something that smells like you to her spay, and ask the vet to put it with her when she is done, and she is recouping before you pick her back up. I did that for our Siamese cat, who had separation anxiety, yes some cats get it lol, and it worked well for her. It's worth a try. Good luck! Smile

Can you stay with her until she's anesthetized?

So, funny story.

Sky did fine. In fact, she was in charge of the whole situation.

She was happy to be at the vet's. I was signing her in when we got called. Mom & Dad were helping with the shuttling back and forth and had her leade, so she led them into the exam room.

She went back in the back with the vet's assistant without a whine and without even looking back at daddy. Completely makes a monkey out of me for worrying, but I don't mind at all.

She's also come out of the spaying just fine and is resting up. She's got some parasites as well, so when I pick her up tomorrow I'll have a raft of prescriptions to work through with her.

All of the vet visits are done for now. She's free of parasites and all the blood counts are getting back to normal. She's even enjoying doggie showers now.

Here she is, offering to help me with the snack I have on my desk.
