Hi everybody, my name is Vivian and I am gettin my first husky in the summer of August this year. I have done a lot of research and know this is the breed for me. But before I rush into buying a husky I want to get to know other husky owners and if they have any tips for me. I will share my adventures with you guys.

Welcome Vivian and kudos to you for doing your research beforehand. Are you thinking of getting one from a breeder or a shelter/rescue?

We moved out of Mukilteo, WA (not far from Seattle) 2.5 years ago and we adopted our husky, Dakota, from the Everett Animal Shelter back when we lived there. I remember looking through the online listings of huskies in rescue and shelters within a 100 mile radius of Mukilteo daily and there were SOOOO many huskies in need of homes. Way more than any other place I've ever lived. There's a husky rescue right there in Seattle too which you can visit and I'm sure will allow you to get even more familiar with the breed before you bring home one of your own.

I am thinking of buying from a breeder, because I know a lot of breeders with a good litter in august. I did look at a couple of shelters in my area but right know we aren't going to buy a puppy since we have vacation for a month. I might go look at the shelter when I come back. Do we have a meet around my area some time this month or the next?

Welcome Vivian! I second the kudos on doing your research Smile It's so important to do anytime someone makes the commitment to get a dog Smile

Check out the How to Find a Reputable Breeder thread on tips and questions to ask your potential breeder! However, I am also a big advocate of adoption. Puppies are cute, but vastly over-rated in my book when there are so many good huskies in need a homes Smile We adopted both of ours and could not be happier!

Good luck! I look forward to reading about your journey.

And so far, I don't know that we have anyone here in the Seattle area! But check out your local rescues for husky meet-ups Smile

Hi Vivian and welcome! I'm a newbie too Smile

I envy you guys! I live in Edmonton, AB and really wanted to adopt a husky but none were available here...petfinder kept finding me huskies in Seattle or other WA rescues...we thought about making it a road trip but figured it just wasn't worth the time/$ and finally bought from a breeder. Weird we don't have many huskies here since we're further up north.

Awesome you did your research. There currently 17 huskies needing homes on petfinder, http://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?animal_type=Dog&pet_breed=siberian+husky&location=seattle%2C+wa&distance=100 in case you want to adopt a rescue dog.

Welcome! I would have liked to to adopt a husky when we decided on getting a second, but since my 5yr old female isn't too doggie friendly sometimes we had to go get a puppy that would adapt to her personality.

GOOD LUCK!!!! =)
