| I'm looking for some advise please. I'm currently going to adopt a husky cross puppy from a rescue. The rescue belive the sire was a gsd but don't know for sure since the bitch was dropped into the pound pregnant so they're basing this on the looks of the litter. However the pup we are looking at appears to be developing brindle colouration to her fur. Initially it had looked to be possibly sable. Please give your thoughts on possible breed candidates for this variant! Plus please advise if this breed will be OK with my cat as I'm reading conflicting messages about their prey drive? Finally do the ears look large for a husky? Wondering if they'll stay floppy due to their size? Thanks |

| No idea on breed or mix. Cute pup, though.
As far as cats, especially considering the breed mix is unknown, I don't know that anyone could tell you if the pup will be ok with your cat. I've seen plenty of dogs living happily with cats of course, but it's a toss up and possibly a training/ socialization thing whether or not they will be ok with each other.
Speaking for our two, they could never be in a house with cats. They have a lot of prey drive. That could also have something to do with having two dogs who feed off each other, though. |

| I'm going to suggest that any puppy less than a couple of months looks like a puppy. From what I've seen, there aren't even major size differences between a Lab and a Chihuahua.
About the only way I would be comfortable to try to determine breed, at this age, would be a DNA test.
Cats: I have three Huskies and two cats ... who co-exist without a problem. As an unusual twist, I brought the two cats - as kittens - into a house with the three adult dogs and they've never tried to eat each other - yet ...
Introducing a puppy to an adult cat is likely to be traumatic for the puppy, cats have definite ways of telling a puppy to "Leave me alone!" and the puppy normally learns the lesson well enough that it will hold through to adulthood. Regrettably, there are exceptions but in general if the dogs has had any interaction with a cat they'll leave well enough alone ... I have to laugh at my black cat who'll say "Enough playing!" --- all he has to do is raise a paw.
Ears: Puppies ears are soft and flexible so they can maneuver in the birth canal - most puppies who have erect ears as an adult will eventually stand up in a couple of month - and then droop when they're teething. And 'all' puppies have ears (and paws) that are over-sized at various times as they grow into them. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| If dad is really a GSD...there ARE brindle GSDs but they seem to have more of a dark mask on face? I don't think GSD is ruled out yet, especially if his ears start to stand! What do you think of boxer? Brindle is a common color, and that ear shape is close... Oh well, I also have no idea! As long as you've got the right species. There are internet stories about people raising their cute furry dark pup, and when it grew up, it was actually a bear. |

| Brindle is a major fault for gsd so much so they arnt akc registerable both brindle or washed out looking. Dutch shepherds are brindle and malinois come in brindle. Squirt went through a colorless solid tan phase and a bindle phase and even now her coat gets lighter or darker depending on the season.
Your pup has an adorable little soul patch. |
