Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

From what ive been told CSU is pretty reasonable as long as your ok with students observing. My personal experience with csu back in 2004 was a $30000 bill and yes that is the right number of zeros. My grandpa insisted on trying to save a colt that broke his pelvis on the growth plate. I kinda get the reason when the stud fee was so high. But that is not a normal vet visit.

I haven't been on for a while but have a 7yr old husky whom has been diabetic for 1 year and thankfully well regulated. His diabetes was brought on by cushings which ive also been able to manage but its tough and keeps me busy. The cushings forces me to give him slightly more insulin. An infection or certain supplements will also raise blood glucose. A dog bottoming at 300 will still feel sluggish and his kidneys and other organs are working harder to combat the residual sugar.

For starters, try to get a CBC biochem blood test as a baseline to see where your dogs bloodwork is and his issues are only due to diabetes as many of the symptoms you describe are due to an unregulated diabetic dog but could also be something else. If your numbers are bottoming at 300, he needs more insulin and the goal is to bottom him at 100-150. My dog currently swings 125 to 240. I cant tell you what amount but you should at least try 3 more units given his weight and see where that takes you but I have a feeling he is about 6-8 units away from his target amount.

Keep his food intake the same day by day and exercise the same as well until you have a good understanding of insulin and its effects on food intake and exercise.

the odd glucose readings were caused by an ear infection. Once the ear infection was cleared and the antibiotics out of her system she returned to normal insulin levels.
