1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Blood in enlarged eye Empty
PostSubject: Blood in enlarged eye   Blood in enlarged eye EmptyThu Dec 23, 2021 3:25 am

Hi folks,
My 4 year old female husky named “Too”
Is healthy except for hip issue and due to inactivity from hip is overweight. A year ago we got a husky pup who chewed a recliner to shreds leaving exposed staples. Before I noticed and removed them Too scratched or stabbed her eye which was badly irritated but healed in a week. Over time it was clear the eyeball was bigger and under reflection you could see blood inside or in back. She sees fine and it doesn’t bother her. What if anything should be done. I can’t afford a dog eye specialist. Will her body eventually reabsorb the blood? Advice from vet especially desirable. Many thanks. Bob

This needs to be seen by a vet. It could be related to the previous injury. It could also be the onset of glaucoma which is a known risk in huskies. The enlargement of the eye, in particular, raises my suspicion. Also could be some sort of malignancy. I'm sorry to be a worry wart but this is not something to diagnose on social media.

Good luck

Appreciate your reply. She will be seeing a vet within the next 10 days so it will get a proper diagnosis, and of course whatever treatment is recommended. I hope they will address the hip as well. Thanks again merry Christmas

The eye is definitely worth a check. Chances are there are some blood vessels that just aren't going to repair and it will look like that from now on. I had a dog that tore the retina loose once and killed the whole eye and outside of being blind in that eye she never showed any signs of being bothered. It was just really ugly for us to look at since we were too broke to have the eye removed.

If you have access to a pool swimming is a great low impact way to help get weight off without bothering a hip injury. Extra weight is as bad (sometimes worse) on a hip than an actual injury.
