Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Kicking myself Empty
PostSubject: Kicking myself   Kicking myself EmptySun Jun 12, 2011 11:46 pm

My wife and I were taking Appa for a walk around the lake this evening when we came across a woman with a strange dog. I didn't have my glasses or contacts on at the time so I could barely make it out (my eyes are horrible). As we chatted she informed us she had a husky, and suddenly the blurry face made a little more sense, but the body just didn't fit the face. She then informed us she just finished giving him a shave so he didn't overheat. My heart sunk, and I was too shocked to say anything. I've been kicking myself for the past 2 hours for not saying anything. Poor guy has a long, miserable summer ahead of him. I hope we run in to her again soon.

My wife informed me afterwards the husky was shaved body only; head, tail, and legs were still unshaven. No wonder it was so weird looking to my blurry eyes.

Pet owners should have to pass a breed specific test before they are allowed to get a pet.

Ugh. Uneducated people frustrate me. It's one of the major reasons I started this place!

Don't kick yourself too hard though... nothing can prepare you for the shock of an awkwardly shaved husky!

I took Demon to the dog park this weekend and a lady came in with her pure white dog. At first I thought it was some kind of poodle hybrid (everyone around here has a "something" poo or doodle), it was pretty tall and leggy but the small erect ears and the curly tail threw me off. I asked the owner of this pretty girl and her answer was "she's a malamute. I recently had her shaved." The only thing I could think to reply was "oh". I don't know that much about mal's but I assume their coat works in the same way. Felt so sorry for the poor thing, it just looked soo strange.

Oh no! Not another one! Poor girl! Yes, Malamute's coat works the same as huskies! I assume most northern breed dog's coat keep them warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

I know how you feel. At my work we had 3 huskies that came in 2x a year to be completely shaved- everything, including tail down like a rat. And then we had a mal/hybrid that was shaved with everything but face and feet(only because he would bite if you tried to do his paws). It was always so difficult for me not to be able to tell them how wrong what they are doing is, but of course in the work place I can't be telling them they're idiots. Sad

see im just to much of a big mouth and would tell the person straight out that it is wrong, and give them a lecture about it.

hell all most to the summit we ran into a guy on our way down with 2 short haired dogs that were small i say are they puppies he was like yes one was 5 months the other 8 months i think he said i asked where did you start he said the same place we did, then i said you know they are to young to be doing this. he was like yeah the 5 month old is really tired! he did not go all the way up and we kept running into him on the way down. it had to have been at least 4hrs into the hike for him the one way!!!!

people Mad

I agree with others - people are idiots sometimes. But people will do better when they know better, so I keep the faith. ;-) Tori, I can't tell you how many times I've been grateful for this forum and the people I've gotten to know better because of it. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart.
