2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. anxiety - Anxiety and the Crate Empty
PostSubject: Anxiety and the Crate   anxiety - Anxiety and the Crate EmptySat Sep 10, 2011 1:51 am

My red husky Beignet is a little over 3 months old. I have had him since he was about 7.5 weeks old and he eats a raw diet. He has seen the vet two times and is healthy and worm free.

I have been crate training him with mixed results. He is fine in the crate if he goes inside by himself and goes to sleep. I can close the door and leave him alone and he just sleeps until I take him out during the night. He also goes into his crate when he wants to nap. But if I try to put him inside when he is awake he starts to freak out very quickly. If I leave the room/ house he usually barks the entire time I am gone and poops in the crate (guessing this is from anxiety because he goes to the bathroom outside beforehand). He seems to have only two crate settings: asleep or THE WORLD IS ENDING. Though he has a nylabone and/ or a kong with him he won't play with them if the door is closed.

He eats his meals in his crate, gets treats for going inside voluntarily, gets special rewards given to him inside the crate, etc. He also goes for two long walks during the day and has lots of playtime. I guess he likes the crate, but he doesn't like being left alone or being shut up in it.

Starting today I am going to try putting him inside for very short periods of time. Leave the house for just 5 or 10 minutes, then come back and let him out. Are there any other effective methods to get him to relax/ be comfortable with the door shut? I have tried everything else listed in the sticky training thread.

My 5 month old female is having the exact same issue except she thankfully doesn't poop in the crate, only pees. She is housebroken so I know this is from anxiety and not potty training. She will pay attention to her Kong but finishes that within 15-20 minutes and then wants out. I noticed your post was from 2 years ago. Did your situation improve?
