Pup Screams with Collar Empty
PostSubject: Pup Screams with Collar   Pup Screams with Collar EmptyMon Feb 13, 2012 2:08 pm

Okay, so I've been walking Xiah on a harness with a leash, she's had the collar on too, since day one. I've walked her with the collar just a couple times before and no problem, and she walks with the harness just fine, even if I pull her. (I pull the leash firmly but not really that hard when she starts doing the puppy backup thing, she's gotten used to it and will follow me again if the leash is pulled.) Well today I was giving her a break from the harness, so I used the collar to walk her out to potty. She will literally SCREAM her head off (and sounds like I'm killing her mind you, and it's LOUD) any time I even gently tug on the leash while it's attached to the collar. It's definitely not too tight I've checked it multiple times (on top of the fact that I check it daily), and she went to the vet about 3 days ago for a full checkup and there was no problems. Any advice?

Have you checked to see if she has a sore spot on her neck anywhere? In puppy life, 3 days is a long time and there's no telling if she got into something or ran into something...other than that I don't know.

Just checked (since she's always stuck to my hip unless I'm not home) I poked and prodded all over her neck and all she did was look at me weird. I walked with her to and from the mail box and I think it might just be her protesting and she just needs to be trained. She's a really loud complainer. Might just need to stick with walking with the collar until she gets used to it and then go back to the harness again. Switch between the two.

I was going to suggest to just keep trying until she got over it as long as there isn't any pain. Not sure why she would hate a collar so much, but each is different. Elara would scream bloody murder when I tried to trim her nails as a puppy which was just her throwing a hissy fit. But I just worked though it and ignored her and now she's just fine.

Yeah I've mostly been just ignoring her and continuing with the walk. I've been looked back at her a couple times when she does it and she doesn't look like she's hurting, just ticked off. I'm assuming it's a training thing also because she tries to shake the collar off while we're walking and has done the crazy puppy twists a couple times.

She's a spoiled brat. You know what she's doing right now? Laying on the couch other end of the couch I'm on, stretched WAY out with a huge pile of about 8 toys around her - sleeping. I'll just have to work on it and explain to the neighbors (lol).
