1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

What do you guys think about dog boots or booties for walking? Does walking on pavement or concrete hurt their paws a lot?

no more than any other dog.. A dog's paws will handle concrete just fine for walks through town. It's the extended running, jogging, and hiking on rocks that will wear and tear on a dogs paws.

I wouldn't be too worried about booties if you will just be taking the pup for routine walks.

Skip the boots, thus you can skip the nail trimming. I've never had to trim Adobo or Biko's nails as we walk about 30 miles a week on all different surfaces.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you're going to be going for a really long run on really tough terrain.
During the fall my team does 5 mile sprints on dirt trails and gravel roads and I've never had a foot problem or had to use booties so you should be fine. Smile

we have booties more for injured paws on hikes as i cant keep them on in the snow and they still fall off on the rough rock hiking. we use them more if they start bleeding and we need to keep it safe on the hike.
dogbooties.com is a great place to get some for just in case

and im with Len, love that the concrete from waking wears the nails down so no trimming is needed.

My 2 don't wear booties...we walk everyday on the sidewalk, about 2 miles everyday. On weekends we try to get out on a hike 2 or 3 times a month, or snowshoeing/skijor in the winter. We use Musher's Secret in the winter to help prevent the snow from balling up in their paws. We haven't had any issues with their pads wearing down....and I haven't had to trim their nails in over a year...

I put shoes on kiara now, never had to trim hers either. I got some "ultra paws" off amazon for a good price. Here she is trying them on, https://www.itsahuskything.com/t4648-kiara-s-new-shoes

I would reccommend them on any intense activity on pavement. I took kiara bike jouring the first time and it tore up her paws really bad, I felt horrible... They took a really long time to heal... Her pads were completely peeled off and they were all pink and bleeding a little. Sad
