PostSubject: Martingale Collar or Flat Collar? Collar Sizing Question   collar - Martingale Collar or Flat Collar? Collar Sizing Question EmptyThu Sep 06, 2012 11:34 am

I am about to get the kids a gift of new collar. It's a little pricey but the quality is good and I can use it for a long time. Should I get a martingale/slip or a flat collar? They can't slip out of a martingale collar right? Titus slipped out of his flat collar last week and luckily my partner caught him in time. Also, their collar have plastic buckle so I want to get something with metal buckle for safety measures

Any idea of whether a slip/martingale collar or a flat collar suits a husky and malamute most?

I use martingale collars on both mine when we're out and about, and you can get them from North Star Husky rescue for $10:
http://www.northstarhuskyrescue.org/
Scroll down a little and you'll see the martingale collars. Your purchase benefits the huskies in rescue!

The collars I use to hold their ID tags are:

I don't clip their leashes to this collar as I keep it loose.

I haven't got one yet but I'm really interested in these:

Basically a quick release martingale collar that can be upgraded to a metal release. For dogs that hate having things slipped over their head.

Does that mean to put two collars on them at the same time? Because they don't wear collars at home.

How do I measure the neck size? From the back of the ear, Titus is 17 inch. From the lower part of his neck, he is 18 inch

It is not advised to use a martingale collar as their collar collar , because i slips off easier and its similar to a choker but way safer most people I know say its good for walks and training though

It sounds like you don't use a collar at home, and only put it on when you're going out for a walk? Sorry if that sounds redundant but just making sure as I'm pretty sure you just said that XD

I'd then suggest a martingale Smile They tighten when they pull so your pups can't back out of the collar, but don't tighten more than the collar lets it so the martingales can't choke them.

Leather though, kinda sounds like it would be stiff, not sure how well it would tighten quick enough to counter a husky trying to back out of its collar?

I'd give indi-dog a look, shes in the UK but has shipped to the US to me before and I believe ships world wide Wink She has both nylon and fabric collars you can check out, and has many patterns on her fb page that you can kinda 'special order' but it'd be the same price as the website.
