I just don't get it, Luna is making this gagging sound again. It been two days now. She eats and drink like normal, but after when she done eating it seem like she's trying to make herself throw up . I don't know what to do. Last Friday we took her to the vet and she was fine.

Is there anything I can do to help her out? I'm lose because she seem like her old self. She eats, drinks, play, and even bark as well.

She broke her Harness again now we using her dog collar to walk her for now until we get something stronger later this week. I was thinking can this be a factor to it?

Kota has/had this issue a lot. Not as much now that she is older but when she was a puppy it was terrible. It use to freak me out, and being the worrier that I am, it always ended up with a trip to the vet. That was also before I discovered this site. Of course Kota only did it after she ate, but I started to realize as I watched her at her ate so fast, and would drink/eat everything all at once. She would gag trying to make herself throw up. I started reading online about it trying to get an answer and read that dogs digestive system is quite different from ours. Its very common for a dog to eat a large amount of food very fast to the point that they're stomach cannot handle it, so they make themselves sick. Typically Kota would actually throw her food up, and try to re-eat it which was gross but after reading everything I learned that its common and isn't neccessarly bad for them. They compaired it to the "Eyes bigger than your stomach" theory.

Hopfully this is just the same problem as your having. We got Kota a special food bowl that had pillar like structures in it to slow down her eating and that helped a lot.

Thanks Sarah, that was very helpful, now we got to make sure she takes her time when she's eating. Can I get the bowl at petsmart or petco?

I think so. We got ours from Pet Land, but they are all about the same in my opinion. If you can't find them, ask someone and they will be able to find it if they have it. Hope that helps, and sovles your problem.

Callie gags when she eats too fast too. It's usually when she's eating something she's not supposed to -_-

You can either get the special bowl at one of the pet stores (i believe all stores sell a variation of them) or you can use the things you have at home. If you take a muffin tray and put the food in there, it'll take her longer to get all the food. Or you could spread the food out over a flat surface. The easiest way might be just to stuff a tennis ball into her bowl of food so she has to eat around it.

For Callie, since she doesn't always eat fast, I couldn't justify buying a special bowl. I did buy the Kong Wobbler though I initially bought it for stimulation. It slows them down a lot since they have to work to get the kibble out and even then it's only a few pieces at a time.

I would hand feed her for a week or so. make her sit and feed her a bit at a time to teach her to slow down. I think it help with our rescue a little when we did it.

Lola eats fast and I have her eat out of puzzles. I got mine on Amazon. My favorite is the pyramid. We also have a star spinner but that one is really easy. Sometimes I feed part of her food by hand and have her work on sit, down and stay. She thinks kibbles are treats. (Which helps my budget!)
