Grass and dirt eater :-/ Empty
PostSubject: Grass and dirt eater :-/   Grass and dirt eater :-/ EmptyFri Nov 30, 2012 1:47 pm

I have been having a serious problem with my puppy either eating alot of grass and throwing up or eating dirt and doing the same. It's almost like a once a week thing now. Woke up this morning and she had thrown up in her crate. Tried to get her to not step in it as I opened the door and she plopped down right in it. My vet said that my puppy is in good health and they normally eat grass but it seems like a everyday thing. She gets plenty to eat. I just want to know if its just a puppy thing and maybe grow out of it?

She'll probably grow out of it. All dogs have a sense to eat a certain kind of grass when their tummy is upset. This may not be the case for you because your pup is healthy. Just keep an eye out on her behavior though. She probably just likes to chew stuff because she's teething (you didn't mention how old she is, but I'm guessing 4-5 months?).

Juneau would eat grass and dirt to her heart's content (not that I liked it, ugh). She never threw up any of it though. She eats less dirt and grass now and she's 7 months.

Maybe you can distract her by playing fetch or chasing her around the yard?

Are there any chemicals being treated in the grass? That could be the cause of her throw up.

Yeah she is 4 months old and no the grass isn't treated. I work for a pest control company and there isn't any chance of me treating it. I try distracting her but it doesn't seem to work... She digs holes and then plays with the dirt balls. It's kinda funny sometimes because she will have it in her mouth and bite down to hard and she tries to spit it out. Hopefully it will slowly stop. I think it's she doesn't know when it's too much. Kinda like she will eat and drink way to much water way to fast. Take a couple steps and I will see it again.

Sounds like Juneau lol. She still digs holes (from lack of exercise on my part). I don't even want to count how many holes I have. Come springtime I will buy some dirt and grass seed. We need new grass anyways so she's just slowly helping me plant new grass. lol!
