PostSubject: Is Maxi fat?   Is Maxi fat? EmptySun Dec 02, 2012 12:11 pm

Maxi is 5 months old (in two days) and he is 15,4 kg ( around 33 lbs i think) 48 cm(18,8 inch) tall and 58 cm(22.8 inch) length.
I got a little scared because i know they can get overweight easy and we meet yesterday a husky that is older then him but leaner.I know of course they can be different shapes and sizes and i did notice the paws of the other one being more skinny and i don't think he can get fat in
the paws Smile.

You should easily be able to feel his ribs, have a taper in his waist when you look at his body from the top, and from the side, he should have an abdomen tuck meaning from his ribs going toward his hips, his abdomen should not be the same level as his ribs.

Yes, he sounds like he's OK.
If you can see a few of his ribs through his fur, he could be a little on the thin side.
Since he's only 5 months and still growing, you could give him a little more food if he still seems like he's hungry.

He eats when he feels like it, I can't manage to make him a schedule for feeding. I give him dry food in the morning some times he eats it sometime he eats that for lunch and sometimes he eats that for all the day. On the kibble bag (i feed him royal cannine maxi junior) it says to give him 3 cups per day, there are days when he eats just 1. I do give him every 2 days also raw bones to chew (chicken or pork).
In my opinion he eats to few... you can't see his ribs like in a bad thing,it's more like you know they are there so you understand the lines the fur makes. He has a really thick coat it's hard to actually see anything.

I think he's fine.
As a guide, you should be able to easily feel his ribs, but you should not see his ribs through his fur.
If he regulates himself with food, that's fine too.

Those pictures are hard to tell by. Can you post a photo of him standing taken from the side? That will better show if he has any 'tuck' or waist.

Koda at 7-8 months went through a tubby puppy fat/excess skin phase, and by 10-12 months lost it all. Maxi looks like his stomach hangs low, but I'd bet it'll go away in the next few months.

He's only 5 months old so I wouldn't really worry about it. It looks like he's just got some "baby fat" still and I bet it'll go away within a few months. All puppies look a little tubby when they're that young Wink

I don't think her ticker is wrong, in Europe the date sequence is dd/mm/yy.

Okay now I'm really curious, when is Maxi's birthdate? XD The ticker, if it represents his birthdate, suggests either April 8th, which can't be right as he doesn't look 9 months old, or August 4th, which would only make him 4 months old, but you said he's five months? I'm soo confused! xD

He just looks a tab heavy set to me, but not terrible. But how thick is his coat. Elara looks fat a lot of the time, but she really isn't, it's her coat that makes her look like that. You get her wet in a bath and she sure looks skinny!
