I would appreciate your opinion on this, please. This is our first show siberian (first sibe ever!) and breeder has been sending photo updates. What is the deal with pink noses, especially on gray/white dogs? I know some pink is acceptable for reds, right?? What does the standard say about this, and how much to noses change as they grow up?

This is about 4 weeks old.....

Thanks for your input!!! I love this site!

Wait....how do I attached a photo?? Wink

Don't worry that size should be fine lol hopefully someone with show experience can come along and help you. I believe pink on grey pups is a snow nose? Ahh dunno

It's generally referred to as snow nose and it happens to some of them in the colder months. Pippa is a wolf grey/white (I think!) and her nose is almost entirely pink right now, but was completely black in August.

As for it being standard, from what I've heard on here, some judges will mark against it, even though it's completely out of your control, and other's don't seem to mind it. Make sure you read this thread! It's been very interesting to me and is where I read something about snow nose in show dogs I think.

Congrats on the puppy!

Thanks for the congrats~hope she is all we hope for! yes, I know it does happen in the cooler months, but the one with the pronounced pink streak seems to have been born with it...from the 2 week old pics, it's there! Can they just be born that way??

I don't know about showing, but my pure white one had a black nose with some pink in it when he was a little pup, and by about 3 months it was all black, but then it started turning again and now it is brown.

Nikko is black/white/grey and his is black and hasn't changed at all

It is called snownose and it is acceptable in the breed standard. I guess some judges may be put off by it, but I really wouldn't worry about it. Here's the breed standard: http://www.akc.org/breeds/siberian_husky/index.cfm

My two are starting to get it and Elara's brother has terrible snow nose! lol. His nose is almost totally pink last time I saw him!

You haven't decided on a puppy yet, right? It's best to do evaluations when they are around 6-12 weeks old. Some people think 8weeks is the perfect time, others 6 weeks, and others 12 weeks! lol. But 4 weeks is a tad early. Oh and you could ask for videos too and see how they all are walking/trotting now. I've heard you want to choose the ones who walk/trot best first, because they are probably more sound in structure hence them walking better quicker. Though that's just something I've heard from other breeders.

Who is the breeder? Would be easier to decide based on mom and dad if we could see them!

I agree the best would be to know who the breeder is, the lineage of the parents, and to see the parents. All of our puppies noses have been set by 4-6 weeks with little variation through to adulthood with the exception of snow noses. These pics do not look like show noses, nor snow noses, but rather poorly pigmented. Which is a fault that will not be overlooked in the show ring. Overall I'd choose a puppy based first on structure before anything else. It would be horribly disappointing to start out with what you thought would be a show potential that really isn't.

Lani raises a very good point - pigment problems are very different than snow nose. However, I do see dogs win who have both. You will find that some cover it up, its illegal in both AKC and UKC, but people do it.

Fre developed some snow nose when she was about 4 months old.
She's now 7 mo and although the snownose isnt as prominant it's still slightly visible.
