Peanut butter definitely is a good one and meat for sure. You could even look up feeding a strictly raw diet Smile

For training I used chopped up hot dogs or cubes of cheese Smile

I like Smuckers Natural for mine, but my opinion is the natural ones. The dog bakery uses that brand also

I like giving mine deli meat (roast beef), string cheese (favorite), & white meat turkey hotdogs.

I'm pretty picky about what I give them and those are pretty much the normal things I give mine. I tried stuffing kongs w/yogurt and pumpkin, but they weren't that interested in it at the time. I may try it again here soon Smile

Others have posted great suggestions!

Some pups like carrots. I've tried giving Juneau carrots but she's not too fond of them! Applesauce is good too (if you want to stuff it in the kong or something). Also if you cook raw chicken, you could toss her some raw chicken (boneless breast/thigh is what I use).

Whatever you do, don't feed her grapes! They're toxic to our babies.

String cheese, hot dogs, I do cooked and dried chicken breast, liver, anything like that makes my pups happy. I'd be cautious with peanut butter I found out the hard way one of mine is allergic to peanuts!

I use string cheese mostly for training and pottying.

I put peanut butter in her kong as well as yogurt, pumpkin, applesauce, and blueberries. I would just be careful in general just like with a baby introduce things solely to see if they have an allergy.

Definitely stick with plain, the other ones have too much sugar/additives. Plain Greek yogurt is excellent too.

I'd watch the salt content in deli meats.

I cut beef steak strips into small 1cm cubes and freeze them, then use them as high reward treats.

PostSubject: Re: Treats to give   Treats to give EmptySun Jan 13, 2013 2:32 am

Hi all,
Here is some info I pulled together of the internet so I know what I can and cant feed my husky, mind you she is is alot older ( Kira is between 1 and 2 years of age) again everything must be in moderation. If people have any comments on this list please also let me know. I am no dog nutritionist or anything but have always wanted to ensure my dog gets good healthy foods to keep her strong. Not saying that all huskies would like the below.

I have put down fruits and veg and next to each the good health effects. I try and include a mix of the below in her diet. for goodness and variety. And ofcourse meats like chicken, fish, red meat, mince, turkey. (cooked) I prefer to stay away from off the shelf commercially prepared dog foods in supermarkets because you dont know what goes into some of the canned foods these days unless its of high quality Like Earthborn - ( Note I give Kira also Coastal Catch dry also sometimes )
She has no health problems so far.

Also note, that veggies are not fully digested by dogs in their raw state For the best absorption steam or boil and puree veggies. This will make them easily digestible.
