when I adopted my husky, he was on FirstMate Ocean Fish Formula. FirstMate is a pretty good brand here in Canada especially in the West. He was okay but I started to switch to TOTW Pacific Stream these days. Every day he has a little gas a few times when he stretches - but not every time. Do you think it's a big deal? Is it because of the dog food? Any suggestions?

From our experience, we've changed kibbles a lot (7 different brands in 2 years), and even went from kibble to raw back to kibble back to raw. Usually during the initial switch, until their body transitions to a new food completely, they will be gassy. Some foods cause them to be more gassy and no matter how long they eat it, the gas doesn't stop until you switch to a different food. If they are doing well on a food, yet are gassy, you just have to give it time. If the gas bothers you too much, or you think they're always bloated, you can switch to a different food that they will do equally well on without the gas after a transition period. It's all trial and error, but give each food time. Sometimes it takes weeks to months for the dog's body to make a full transition. Good luck. Hope that helps!

Generally something the dog is eating is causing the gas. Whether or not it's an issue is really up to you and the dog. I personally don't feed anything that gives my dogs gas. If something causes gas then I get rid of it. My dogs haven't had gas in years. And from my personal experience, if a food causes gas then it causes gas, it doesn't stop causing gas over time.
