PostSubject: HELP!!! My Polar ate a large amount of sugar and coconut !!   HELP!!! My Polar ate a large amount of sugar and coconut !! EmptyTue Jul 02, 2013 3:44 am

Ok so here the story, I have a one year old husky, her name is Polar and she happened to eat a lot coconut and sugar let me explain.

So my friend today came back from Guatemala and brought me back some candy from there which I love. It's called Cocoacana which is a Guatemalan candy, it pretty much looks like rice crispy but brown. Anyways my friend brought me back 4 or them and I left them on the table which I though she couldn't reach them but to my surprise when him and I returned to the house I found the foil they were wrapped up in and they were all gone.

Now my friend assured me when I asked him what were they made out of he told me it was literally just coconut and brown sugar baked for a few hour until they were hard and crispy. We found puke around the house when I came home and she feels really bloated around her stomach

Is this life threatening to her or is it dangerous enough for me to take her to the vet??what I have noticed is that she is still acting her self and jumping around and doing little obstacle courses around the house? Please help me if large amount of sugar and coconut are bad! Thank you all!

Might be at least worth a phone call if not a visit to your vet to see what they think, I'm not sure if either are considered poisonous. I hope she recovers quickly, but she will likely have loose stool also and maybe lethargic for a while.

Have you done a search on google to see what it says? If she has all ready puked she could just feel bad from eating it. Also a vet call, can't hurt

Are you sure there is no chocolate in there? I don't know anything about this candy, but because the word cocoa is part of it, I'm wondering if there could be some and that can be dangerous.

@JillC- no there wasn't any chocolate at all thank God. Just coconut and lots of brown sugar baked for hours. I read online that coconut isn't bad for dogs and a little but of sugar doesn't hurt, but she ate a whole lot of it maybe a quarter pound of it

Have you called your vet yet? How is Polar acting now?

I would not think that even a large amount of sugar is necessarily toxic for dogs, just cause a very upset tummy (like in a person). But excessive vomiting and diarrhea could lead to dehydration.
