| I realize that there have been several threads on this before, but none of them have really answered my questions... :s
So basically I read that Human grade fish oil capsules are safe to use on dogs and I was wondering what dosage amounts would be safe to give them. Would a daily dose of one 1000mg capsule be too much? If not then what about an 8 week old puppy? Also I really don't know too much about coconut oil, but I read that it's pretty good and I would like to know more about it (i.e is there a specific kind for dogs or is any given brand safe for both human and Canine? Also are there any guidelines on how much should be given and when?)
Thanks in advance! |

| I had similar questions before and Megan gave me some answers. - mbarnard0429 wrote:
I give fish oil and coconut oil together. 1000mg Salmon Oil Daily, 400 I.U. Vitamin E every other day and Coconut Oil daily. She also said she uses the NOW foods brand for salmon oil. As long as the coconut oil is organic, extra virgin, unrefined, cold pressed (this is the one I use), it's good for humans and dogs alike. You just have to start them small on dosages. I give Mishka a tsp of coconut oil every morning with a tsp of ACV. I mix it with his food. If your dog will eat the capsules you can give it straight like that or you can break the capsules open and squirt the salmon oil and/or vitamin E in their food. Just make sure you supplement any fish oil with vitamin E. Hope that helps! _________________ |

| Why do you need to supplement fish oil with vitamin E? |

| You supplement fish oil with vitamin E because fish oil naturally depletes the systems stores of vitamin E over time. |

| Hello! Some salmon oils already have vitamin E in them, should i still be supplementing it in that case?
I guess my real question is, is there such thing as TOO MUCH vitamin E? |

| Yes, there is such a thing as too much vitamin E - I wouldn't go over 400 I.U. every other day for huskies, less for small dogs. |

| Is there any difference/benefits in Salmon Oil from other oils that make it better? When looking up different Fish oils (NOW brands as suggested) the normal ones had 500 EPA / 250 DHA where as the Salmon oil only had 120 EPA / 80 DHA. I know that you really don't want to overdose on fatty acids, but 120 EPA / 80 DHA seems kind of low... |
