Puppy Walking Empty
PostSubject: Puppy Walking   Puppy Walking EmptyThu Oct 08, 2015 8:53 am

Hi guys,
I know I may be asking a lot of questions but I need to make sure I know what I'm doing for my boy when he comes home.

Regarding puppy walking.
I know hip dysplasia is a huge issue when he grows up so avoiding this is a must.
I also know the rule of thumb is 5min walk = 1 month of age.

Silly question, does this mean at 8 weeks = 10min walk a day or walking session.

I don't want to over walk him if it wont be good for him in the end.

Thanks again for all your help Very Happy

Okay so it means in sessions cora had a lot of energy at 8 weeks old, so I walked her 4 times a day 10 minutes at a time! It's Greta to get their energy out by playing in the house with balls and toys. Also remember to keep the walks limited outside because Milo won't have all his shots yet and you don't want to risk something like parvo, these are some things I didn't know and luckly Cora never got hurt but she could have gotten sick.

This might be saying some of what has already ben said, but hold off on walking your puppy until it's had all its shots. Parvo is a huge issue and can be picked up by simply sniffing an infected dog's poop on a walk. Until then, carry your puppy in places where there could be a risk of parvo. Puppies that young don't need to be walked until they're a little older. Free play on soft surfaces (carpet, grass, etc.) is fine for now. It's amazing how stimulating and tiring a good raining session can be at that age, too! Now is the time to work on training and socialization. Good luck! Smile
