Husky Shedding - HELP!! Empty
PostSubject: Husky Shedding - HELP!!   Husky Shedding - HELP!! EmptyTue Dec 01, 2015 12:43 am

Hi everyone,

I have 2 Agouti Siberian Huskys Bella(on the left) and Shadow (on the right)..
Shadow is 1years old and is starting to shed his hair. I recently noticed that reasonably sized clumps of hair was falling out of both of his hind legs.. i have been brushing him for the past few days and no matter how long i spend brushing his legs the fur never seems to stop coming out. Ive also noticed that were i have pulled the clumps of fur out he has very short thin hair nothing like the fluffy bead he is.. is this him just naturally shedding his coat or is this something else??

Any help/advice will be muchly appreciated as i am a little worried..

Thanks in advance Jack, Nicola, Bella and Shadow

I thought you said you found out Shadow is a Malamute? In either case, your huskies are blowing coat, it's normal

Well you certainly have 1 potentially Agouti, the other not so much...But regardless, very normal to see a coat blow as winter coat is pushing its way in-

Welcome Mat Forum, page 2 of "Hello from West Midlands, England UK" ...you ask us all if we think your Shadow is husky or Malamute, then after we give our opinion, you tell us he is indeed Malamute. You also mention him being an agouti because of his "white tipped tail " scratch

You're Welcome Wink

Well, someone has some anger issues...

Nothing anyone said in this thread was demeaning or criticizing your or your dogs.

Amy, I don't think the OP is upset with Sara or Huskymom, I believe she is upset that I reminded her she told us Shadow is a Malamute. Why? I do not know. I would think, and hope, a person who is a "bit worried" about something that is going on with their dog would give as much, and as accurate information as possible about their dog and its situation. I would apologize, but, I'm not sure what I'd be apologizing for. I do apologize to Sara and Huskymom though for being lumped into the same category as "me".

Now excuse me while I put on my shades, the sun shining from my you know where is a bit blinding

Are there any bald patches? Does his skin look red or irritated? Is he scratching or chewing at a specific area a lot? It sounds like a normal shed but it's best to keep an eye on him to be sure.

Hmmmm, ok. I just wanted to jump in on this one. I may end up sitting with Jimmy and the sunglasses on, but......to the op, all dogs shed, northern breeds shed year round and then most will have a blow twice a year. Hunks and chunks come flying off your dog. I could literally make another husky with the amount of chunks coming off of Miya right now. Here is a pic.....Nothing to worry about the clumps are normal, the appearance of a thinner coat is normal.

Husky Shedding - HELP!! Sam_0816

Husky Shedding - HELP!! Sam_0817

In the first pic taken 11/25, you can see the "thinner" fur coming in as OP described, and in the second you can see the clumps I pulled out, lol. It takes a few weeks, and lots of brushing, raking and pulling out clumps then the coat will look normal again.

On to the agouti thing.......for educational purposes, here is the description of an agouti, an agouti is a color pattern not a sub breed of the siberian husky....."This is a very rare coloring, more often found in racing/working lines rather than conformation/show lines. There is often a brindle look to the coat because individual hairs are banded with multiple colors. The coloring extends far down the legs and the faces are darker than normal. The lighter markings are cream instead of the more common bright white of the traditional "Irish coat" Siberian husky. A black tipped tail is common for an agouti." Clearly the OP may have one agouti, but Shadow is not. And to be in quite agreement with huskymom, who knows huskies pretty much inside and out, I don't believe Bella is an agouti with what the above description states, Bella does not have a black tipped tail, in the pic above Bella has a white tipped tail.

Now I will go put my shades on and go sit with Jimmy.Husky Shedding - HELP!! 1347041234 Cool silent

No im not annoyed with anyone and dont bring in other people jim yes that was aimed directly at you.. yes we asked previously about him and hes breed but anytime we ask about anything you always want to mention something about shadow and his breed.. to have you know we went and spoke with a specialist vet that deals with DNA and bloodlines of dogs and yes he is a siberian husky with part mal in him. So your not always right mr perfect.. remember to read around yourself first! Where as Bella now, she is an agouti.. you either get the bkack tip tail or the white tip tail well cream tip this is whats known as the dirty face agouti.. which in cases like that they will be the opposite to the black tip.. also her coating shouldnt and isnt white it must be like a creamy colour.. theres that many breeds when you really look into them.. have a look around for yourself.
On the other hand with shadows coat.. yes thank you for everyones help and support.. weve now purchased a special combing brush for when dogs shed and it seems like its working wonders.. once again thank you to everyone who helped x

I believe this is only the second time I've posted to any topic of yours so I don't really understand where you get I "always bring up Shadows breed whenever you ask something"??? And the first time you had specifically asked what we thought Shadows breed was, hahaha. I didn't know what to apologize for earlier in this thread, but now that you cleared things up, I do now, so please accept my apology on embarrassing you. It truly was not my intention. Wink I sometimes forget that some people know more than I do, like your paragraph on agouti's here, you really DO know your agouti's! I wasn't sure earlier when in your OP you said you had TWO agouti's and introduced Shadow, your husky/malamute mix as one of them. Gosh, I feel so stupid right now Sad

well this got ridiculous fast.

OP: You have a northern breed dog, any google search and you would have found loads of information on coat blowing, which is what your dog is doing. Jimmy bringing up him being part malamute is simply to point out you have a mix of 2 northern breeds, theres no need to fly off the handle like that. Seriously. Rude. you come on here asking for advice, get some, and then you directly accuse someone of being a waste of space over something that was in no way rude or derogatory? Grow up.

My best suggestion is simply: research what breed of dog you have.

If you do a quick google search, you will find Siberian Huskies do a coat blow, where they lose chunks of hair.

If you do a google search, you will find one of yours is clearly not agouti.

I'm not /trying/ to be rude, but I understand I probably am coming off as so because I personally feel offended by your angered replies when no one here has done anything to insult you, and it does poor service to these knowledgeable people who spend their free time to get on here and give advice when they don't have to.
