I honestly don't know how we get so lucky sometimes... Koda hasn't been out since the great cat caper of 2011 (most of you will remember that incident involving a late night escape, a run-in with a neighborhood cat, and the subsequent drama with my neighbors-- WHO by the way are moving, lol).

Well, the gorgeous day that it was today, we did our spring poop cleanup and John was raking the yard. I finished work and let the dogs in the yard while John and I were working. We chatted with the neighbors for a few minutes and then John goes "Where's Koda?" I was like, "I don't know!" We have about a 1/2 acre, so I start looking under the deck and the various places he could be hiding. Meanwhile Hailey is just standing there and the neighbor's dog (not the "bad" neighbor) starts going nuts at the back of his yard. Kirk (good neighbor) goes, "Oscar, what's up!?" and I look back, notice that the gate at the back of our fence is open and I scream, "JOHN! That gate is open! Koda's GONE!" EVERYONE jumped into action. I grabbed some treats and the keys and hopped into the car. John took Hailey inside and ran out the back after Koda. Our neighbor Pat ran through her yard towards the school in the back and Kirk ran to his car to head in the other direction.

I'm not kidding you, I was driving around the neighborhood asking EVERYONE if they had seen a husky. When they said no, I said, "His name is Koda, he's very friendly! I live at 2 Birch Lane, thank you!" and drove off. I went out to the major road to make sure he wasn't running along that and no sign of him. Luckily (I suppose) EVERYONE was outside cause it's the first gorgeous weekend of the spring. I'm not kidding you, I was driving and talking to people for 20 mins with no sign of Koda. I finally called my cousin Amy in tears because I started to get so scared. I didn't know where she was but I knew she'd come running to help look. I FINALLY got a call from John and he was home with Koda.

Our neighbor Pat had took off towards the school (John went in that direction too but he went into the woods). On her walk back from the woods, she saw Koda on the other side of the street running towards the main road (this was after I went that way so Koda must have jumped into the other neighborhood to the north of us instead of the direction I went). She said she waited for him to cross the street (so he was on the same side of her), stopped, called his name and he ran right to her!! (Can you believe that? The little shit that he is and he ran right to her! LOL). She grabbed him, put him in her fenced yard and then the neighbors went looking for John and I. They saw John in the woods and our other neighbor's 6 year old just started yelling "She got him! She got him!"

I came home in tears. He's gotten out before, but that was BY FAR the longest he's been loose with NO sign of him. Freakin' Koda!!

All's well that ends well though. And my neighbors are so amazing. Seriously, everyone who was outside today (and it really was just about everyone) dropped what they were doing and started to help. We are so blessed.

It gets better-- found out that the reason the gate was open is due to the neighbor (yes, the cat neighbor). His dog got loose the other night. He squeezed through our fence and into our yard (his dog is small and able to fit through cracks in the fence unlike either of ours). He came in the back gate and left that way... he didn't say it explicitly, but he must not have shut the gate all the way...

And before anyone says it... nope, I don't think he did it on purpose at all. He still has 3-4 outdoor cats and I don't think he'd be THAT stupid to let Koda out again when his favorite cat is an outdoor cat.

Interesting twist though!

And people think I'm crazy for having locks on my gates and freaking out if all three of my dogs are not in my line of sight when in the yard! How much has Koda aged you with all this escapes up to this point? lol So glad you've got him home safely and yes, you are lucky to have such helpful neighbors!

We are now making sure there is an extra lock on the back gate just in case. And we freak out if both of ours aren't in our line of sight either!

Ugh... I feel so old sometimes because of him! And of course Hailey sat there the whole time like, "Haha- it's not me in trouble this time! You're gonna ggeeettt ittttt!"

I understand what you are going thru..

The first time Blaze got out my husband ran up the street looking for him found him ended up carrying him back barefooted and temps outside were well into the 100's.

Blaze will not walk with you if you use the collar.

Goodness!! My heart sank a little reading this.
I'm so glad he's home safe and sound.

I have locks on my gates too, and they both have latches on the bottom (but the bottom aren't padlocked...yet).

Oh my goodness. I feel your pain! Zephyr has gotten away a few times and it takes around four hours to catch her. Today, Titan got loose at a local park and, bless his soul, he went to the car and waited for us. I couldn't express how amazed I was that he did that.

These crazy husky boys!

Sabaka had his first taste of freedom last Saturday. He was with hubby picking up a kid and , of course, he's a teen magnet. Even though there was 5 teens and hubby at the car door when they opened it, Nut Job sped past them all and headed for Canada!

I'm so glad Koda's little jaunt turned out so well in the end!!

I'm glad you got him back and all was well!

We had a scare yesterday too! I guess the Huskies wanted to enjoy the nice weather too!

Hayden chewed through his tie out yesterday and I thought he was gone for sure! I ran in the house and did the same thing (treats, keys, and screamed for my sister) and when I turned around to run outside he was right in front of me! He some how sneaked inside!

It was that feeling of "omg! Thank goodness! I hate you but I love you to death!" lol
