My Cleo is barely 3 months and it looks like she's already blowing her coat, is this normal??

I started a thread just like this when Snow was about 3 months. And it's a little early for them to be blowing yet. It may be the brush you used which was what I was doing that was just sorta pulling it out. So I say no probably not. But I'm sure someone else can chime in.

I've used the brushes I'm using now before as well but it didn't pull her hair out... But if we pet her a bunch of hair comes off in our hands, and the house is COVERED with her hair! She was groomed about a week earlier wasn't much hair then... It was when we noticed all the hair on our hands that we thought of brushing her..

I'm not sure how much age has to do with shedding. Everyone keeps saying this is "too young" to blow a coat. But I always thought dogs would shed to loose their winter coat before summer and then to lose their summer coat and grow in a thicker winter coat before winter. So unless I am missing something. . . I don't see why it would be abnormal, given the time of year, for even a young husky to blow a coat.

My understanding is that blowing is the shedding of the thick undercoat. But again this should be seasonal!. Shedding is just a loss of fur in general. But that furball mess in the OP looks a lot like blowing a coat to me (just based on other photo's I have seen on here!)

Yea, Snow's pic looked like yours but she wasn't blowing her coat. I don't know Smile I'm not really experienced as she's my first husky. Just my Blowing coat the first time 2144500265

When you put it that way, it does make sense! I guess it might be normal since they blow their coats before winter/summer... I'm just confused because so far everyone I talked to said huskies start to blow their coats at around 6 months of age..

Raven is 10 months and hasn't blown her coat yet. I would think at 3 mnths Cleo still has her puppy coat.

A three month old should not be blowing coat.

The adult coat should start coming in around 6-8 months and a "puppy blow" follows after - though I do know that some Siberians do not have a full blow until 2 years of age.

Haha! You could take Bella - she is a non-shedding husky. And if you don't believe me you can ask Megan. Razz Bet you'd rather have one of them!

Easton only has about 40,000 people Razz wouldn't be too terribly hard to find me. Though - you'd have a harder time trying to get her Razz She is not exactly strange people friendly like most Siberians.

Thought I'd chime in and say the Kale's official "blow" was when he was a year and a half. Very Happy

It seems Cleo's just making space for more fur! If I part her undercoat, I can see little strand of grey hair all over, I guess she'll turn grey!
