well my name is Rey, I live in southern California. I am a college student aswell as a volunteer at my local animal shelter, I have tried a couple of times to adopt huskies from my shelter and was beaten to it twice, well third time is a charm because i am first on the list to meet a wonderful female husky, she is 1 year old and was surrendered by a guy because he had to give up his house and get an apartment..

i have a black labrador greyhound mix she's 5 years old i was wondering

how do i introduce her to my new husky and minimize any hostility between them? i don't want them to fight or be territorial with one another because my mom is on the fence about a new dog as it is..

and i need some good ideas for naming her! any good ideas would be appreciated

are huskys particularly hard to train or are they as willing and friendly as labs?

the guy told me she was purebred is there any way of telling for sure? because i would like to say she's purebred i think it would sound pretty cool!

Welcome and congrat. Luna was easy to train, on her term Laughing. She listen to me when she wants to or if I have food. She didn't come with a name? I've been told its hard to change a dog name after it familiarize with it . My girlfriend named Luna before we even picked her up lol. You can her what you heart feel or by her character.

Do you have pictures?

Welcome!

Question 1. Others can better assist you with intros between dogs. Usually it is in a neutral place. You could possible bring your current dog to the shelter and have them meet first before you bring home the female.

Question 2. What ever name comes to you when you get to know her and her personality. I came up with Kale's name in the car on the way home.

Question 3. Yes and no. Some are great and catch onto commands quickly and are very obedient, while others take more consistency and patience to train. You'll know more of her learning style when you bring her home. Just be prepared for the worst lol that way you are always one step ahead. Very Happy

Question 4. There are DNA tests out there, but aren't that reliable. Honestly, getting a purebred because it "sounds cool" it not for the right reasons. I'm sure that's not how you meant it, but others might take it the wrong way here, so just be careful how you word things Wink

Again Welcome! Everyone here is very friendly, informative and love to help and teach others about this amazing breed. Can't wait to see pictures and hear about the intros between both pups. I hope they take to each other! Very Happy

Welcome! I can't really help with the naming or the introduction of the dogs but I can tell you about my experience training my puppy. Anna learned very quickly but she can be stubborn and there are times I set the treats aside and come back at a later time when she is more willing to listen and focus. Anna knows how to sit, lay down, leave it, shake, high five, beg, spin, roll over, heel, stay, come, catch the treat when I throw it to her, and play dead all the while taking the goodies nicely. As Brooke said you will get a feel for her once you bring her home and you will be able to train her in the best way to work for both of you. The way we taught Anna was a routine. We started off teaching her sit which we practiced for two weeks before adding a new trick and we continued to do this until we had all the tricks in a type of pattern/rountine. We made sure to work with her every morning and still make it a habit to make her complete these tricks. In the beginning she got a goody of course for every trick she did. For goodies we break up treats, cut up pieces of string cheese, and use her kibble. As we have progressed, to months of consistency in being able to do the tricks, she gets one goody for every couple of tricks she does. Just stay patient, there are times that Anna will not focus on me at all and is very anxious so as I said I just put the treats away and try again when she is a little more calm. Of course not every dog is the same so I can't tell you whether it is going to be easy or hard. Hopefully some of the guys that rescue will be able to put more in on their experiences since we did start Anna as a puppy I'm not sure if your girl's age will make a difference on training easiness or hardness. I wish you the best of luck and will be looking forward to photos! Congrats, by the way, you will really enjoy her I'm sure!

Also we named Anastasiya ahead of time well I did, but boyfriend went along with it. It took me awhile to find her name because I like very uncommon names so I had to look for the perfect one. Just do a lot of looking around for names, you will know what name is meant to be her's. You can always look on baby name sites they might be of some assistance in finding a name.

Welcome!

There's a thread in the forum on how to introduce dogs - you should check it out; it's very informative!
https://www.itsahuskything.com/t1023-how-i-introduce-new-dogs?highlight=introduce

With the names, it's really up to you - we named ours Stark b/c of GoT. We were debating naming our second either Arya/Aria or Nyx (settled on Nyx) but that's just me Smile

How easy it will be to train her would also depend on how much previous training the owner did. I'm not sure if you can, but try to find out if there has been any previous training done with her. Smile That should give you a fairly good idea of how well she takes to it. Huskies are notorious for being independent, but that doesn't mean training is impossible. Like Brooke said, some may just take a little longer than others.

Whether or not she's purebred, doesn't really matter, other people won't question it if they look pure sibe. (That's an incentive to post some pics of her as soon as you can Smile )

Again, welcome - browse the forum, there is an enormous amount of information available!
