Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. | After reading and learning so much on this forum since I joined, I'm now certain I got Loki from a BYB. I thought she was very reputable breeder but apparently she is just BYB. A decent person, we still keep in contact and she did lot of the hard work for me by originally litter training Loki, made it so much easier to outdoor potty train, he was microchipped and worm-free. One thing the male vet I saw couldn't believe ("Because all puppies have worms" he said) . But I don't know if she OFA cerfs and I can't find any info on paw Village. But I digress I was looking at Loki AKC paperwork last night and I saw a AKC DNA Number by is Sire name. Can one tell me what excatly that means? I looked it up on the AKC site from what it sounds like it is use to trace linage. Any info you can offer would be nice. |

| It is basically a paterinity test for the AKC DNA database. It is used to confirm a dogs lineage (that the mother and father on the pedigree are indeed the dogs parents, etc) I believe kennels that are inspected by the AKC will have their dogs DNA tested.

| Not all have to have DNA tested, but frequently used sires must. You can find that info on AKC.org. Some people do it on all their dogs, some because the studs are used to much, and some if there's a dual sired litter or accidental litter and they need to know who the sire is. _________________ -Sara |

| My breeder had to have his sire DNA'd because he'd fathered a certain number of litters (he's the only male he has and I have this feeling that he lends him out to be bred with other female huskies, yea I made a mistake on that one ) and I assume it was to prove that the dog was actually pure (so he said). |

| This is directly from the AKC web site-
1. Which sires are required to be AKC DNA Profiled?
Effective for litters whelped on or after July 1, 2000, AKC DNA Profiling is required if a stud dog is classified as a Frequently Used Sire, meaning that he has produced seven or more litters in his lifetime or more than three litters in a calendar year.
