Forum Rules | 1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect. 2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff. 3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned. 4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule. |

| Is there a specific time of the day when you do training with your dog? After walks, before food, etc. |

| when she's tired and hungry. because she's less A.D.D and likely to cooperate for food at that point |

| I train several times a day. We work on training everytime we go for a walk (which is at least twice a day). We work on training in the evening and do a few tricks before dinner is put down. We work on training commands when we are playing. Basically, I just integrate a little bit of training at every opportunity. This keeps it new and fun and helps teach Saphire that she has to listen to me in every possible situation. |

^ This. Training at any time of the day is fine but doing it when the pup is tired and or hungry ensures better attention and obedience. It also helps fulfill an instinctual need for the breed to have, and be rewarded for, a job. Our 2 walks a day are done with weight and before eating. It kind of just happened due to our schedule and routine, but it is something I enjoy as it gives them a job and reason to be excited besides just getting to go outside. ~Chris~ _________________ Is this about the cake problem? | Having a different breed I train whenever I like. We always do bits and bobs on walks too. |

| I do training throughout the day. On our walks I work on heel and leave it, and back. When we come back I make them wait at the door before they can come in, and when they eat I make them wait until I tell them they can eat. Pretty much everything has some training incorporated into it.
But then again, that is once they have already learned the commands. Back when we were at class I would work with them in the morning and again in the evening after their dinner and walks. Just about 15 min a day |

| When I am walking Nikko and he starts walking ahead of me, I will stop and say "back". Same thing if I want him to move back from something, say the fridge when I open the door. Our trainer taught us that one. |
