PostSubject: Aspen's Scrapbook   Aspen's Scrapbook EmptySat Feb 11, 2012 8:47 pm

Here is Aspen, f/k/a Sheba. I think I have some work on my hands with this girl. The lady "rescue" I got her from said she doesn't have proof but believes she was beaten. I tend to agree because she makes a point to stay out of your way, does not like hands coming at her face and jumps at loud noises. She is just overall very timid. Her coat is in really bad shape and still has a patch on her face. It does look better than the original picture posted so I do think it's on the mend. She could stand to gain a few pounds. The lady said she has gained atleast 10lbs since she has had her...about 4 months. She had a litter of pups in November and this lady found them all homes. She did wonderfully with Willow at the lady's house and on the drive home but she did fight with her within the first half hour of being here. It wasn't bad, there was no blood drawn. I think she was just overwhelmed and was telling Willow to give her space. Piper is obsessed with smelling the inside of her mouth. Not sure what that's about. I fed them all together and had absolutely no issues. Right now, I'm ignoring her and letting her explore the house on her own so she will get comfortable but she doesn't seem to be scaired of me or Colton. She did growl at the neighbor while we were there so I will have to monitor her with strangers. Hopefully she will settle right in, but I am concerned she will have trust issues that may take some time. Oh and the lady thinks she has timberwolf in her. She said her neighbor has one and she asked him to come look at her and he confirmed that she does have some in her. I don't see it... She does have beautiful gold eyes!

Glad it worked out and you were able to get her! She is a gorgeous girl, and you are just becoming a regular Husky collecter. Shoot, if you keep going at this pace you're going to have a pack that rivals Kristina's Razz

On a side note, I thought of you guys earlier at our play date. Our friends who have the pit mix Caesar adopted another pit mix girl today, and her name is Sheba as well. I think they're going to keep that as her name, and she's an absolute sweetie. She and Ghost were instant friends, which is good because they are taking our dogs while we're on the honeymoon.

I can't wait til the next time I'm in IL so I get to meet Aspen!

Oh heck no! There is no way I have the patience! I'm really hoping three is not going to be overwhelming until Colton and Piper move out. She really seems to be taken with Colton which suprises me. The previous owner was a teenage boy. His mom is the one that gave her away so maybe the mom was mean to her and the boy wasn't. I don't know...

She has already instigated zoomies! LOL!

Thanks Jennet, Jen and Melissa! We are having a few rough spots but overall still doing good!

Here is a pic of all three of them laying together right after one of the spats.

Congrats!!! So happy for you! She's sooooo adorable!

Never mind those spats, they're just establishing the hierarchy. Continue to support whoever comes out on top and you'll be golden! Smile

Aww, thanks everyone! We are having a good night tonight. No spats and I even introduced new toys. Willow is such a toy hog! I bought 4 toys and she tried to get all of them in her mouth. Silly girl. I made her share and there were no fights!

PostSubject: Re: Aspen's Scrapbook   Aspen's Scrapbook EmptyFri Feb 17, 2012 2:52 pm

Aspen's vet visit was this morning. Poor girl has hook worms. Got the meds and have to have more meds in a month and then we can get her on heart worm preventative. She was negative for heartworm, thank goodness. I don't know why, but I was worried about that one. She snapped at the vet tech when she went to hold her while the vet gave her her shots. The vet tech was great and did a good job with handling her but now I wished I had done it instead. I think she would have felt more secure with me. I was just so worried about breaking trust with her so soon. The poor girl was shaking, she was so terrified. As soon as they were done and the vet tech put her back on the floor, Aspen ran to me and leaned into my side... about broke my heart. The vet wasn't concerened about the patch on her face since it is already healing. If it happens again then we will figure out what's causing it. She weighed in at 41lbs and we have her spay scheduled for March 5th.

On a another note, I'm pretty sure she used to get hit. The other night she had clamped down on my arm and I pulled my arm out and up quickly cause it hurt and she cringed away from me as if she was bracing for a hit. I'm glad I don't know her previous family becuase they would be getting a piece of mind.

sorry the visit did not go well Sad can she pass on the hookworms to the rest of the pack? glad she does not have Hear worms. how come you have to wait on the Heart worm preventative? would that not not help with the hook worms as well? sierra acts the same way at the vet, i have to do all the holding and such so she does not freak out

I didn't think to ask why we had to wait for the heartworm. I just assumed they had to get rid of the hookworms first. Does that not seem right? I also asked if she could pass it on to all of us and she said since Willow and Piper are already on heartworm preventative they will be fine. She said the cats should be ok as well as long as they have no access to her stools, which they don't and they don't play with the dogs...so no concerns there. Colton and I will have to be diligent in washing our hands after play with her and we should be fine as well.

The vet told me she was a sweet girl and to just giver her time to bond with me and work slowly with her socialization with other people. Colton's gf took care of the dogs for me last night and she had a friend with her. That made me a bit nervous since I wasn't here but she said Aspen took right to her friend and was very playful.
