I have this issue with Loki. He gets very excited when the neighbour girls come over to see him. He starts howling and jumping on them. I tell him to get down and tell the girls to push him off of them with enough force that he knows he shouldn't be jumping. He will sometimes bite them as well because he is so pumped. He will not jump or bite me because I have established myself as his alpha. I have also bit him back when he bites me. It works wonders. I am just wondering if there is a way I can get through to him when he is so excited to see them. I just don't want them to be scared of him, or when he is full grown taking people down.

Also, another question. I am planning a road trip for this summer. Loki will be around 8 months at that point. The road trip I am taking is about a 24 hour drive to go visit family. Loki LOVES car rides already, but the longest ones we take are about 2 hours. Has anyone ever taken their husky on a road trip and how did they do in the car?

Just stop every couple hours for a 10-15 minute leg stretch and Huskies do fine on road trips.

You can always have the girls turn their backs and cross their arms to Loki till he calms down. Ignore him he will catch on. Or maybe try to get him into the sit position till he is calm.

You can physically stand on his leash so that he does not have the freedom to jump at all. We practiced this just to safe around other people's kids. I almost went back to change the word "practiced" to "practice" (present tense) when I realized it has been months since we have had to restrain him this way. I guess he's finally getting it! With our own kids we teach them to turn their back, throw up a knee, walk purposefully into the jumping dog, all those things... but that is our own kids... We can't sue ourselves for injuries they may sustain!

We're still working on the jumping issue when certain people come to the house, but she's pretty good when leashed in public. We do the whole turn the back or throw a knee thing too.

As far as the road trip goes, we did a trip from here to Cleveland, OH, to Chicago and back, which was about 16 hours each way and another 6 between Cleveland and Chicago. The dogs honestly did great, and we just let them out every time we needed to stop. Don't forget to carry extra water for him, especially since it will be warm out.

We took Blaze for a 12 hour trip with no problem. You will need to take him for short walks and give him water. Treats help too..
