First off i just joined this community finally after months of reading posts as a guest i am now a member so..hi! Alright, so i have been searching a reading through trying to find an answer to my question I have an almost 1 year old female Isabella colored husky named Kya (she will be 1 on 4/21/17) she weighed in @ 36 lbs two days ago. Now i know females can average a low of 35 to a high of 50 lbs so my question is... should her weight correlate with a similar size of her parents? (Father was 62 lbs and Mother was 51 lbs) With many people confirming that by general rule huskies are 98% grown body weight wise at 12 to 14 months, i am just concerned that she is way too small considering the size of her parents and her age so far. Overall i know she is very healthy, she is fit and trim and has a beautiful coat. any advice or reassurance?

Welcome to the forum fellow Texan! She probably is done growing tall wise, but her weight will go up a little, maybe not as much as mom, but close. Typically females take after their moms, but, not always. My husky mix girl is double the size of her parents as well as her siblings. My gsd girl is smaller than her parents and siblings. It happens, and nothing to worry about as long as they are healthy. We have quite a few members with petite females. If you take a look at the weigh in thread, there's 2 of them, https://www.itsahuskything.com/t13214-weigh-in?highlight=the+weigh+in and https://www.itsahuskything.com/t999-weigh-in?highlight=the+weigh+inyou will be able to compare your girl to others. She is very beautiful, and size definitely does not make the dog, and really huskies are medium breed dogs, too many people believe they should be a large dog, when they shouldn't be. I hope that helps.

Thank you! I did actually ready through that first link quite a bit bit before i posted i did notice the few petite ones and compared them similar to Kya but i just figured since her mom was so much bigger that she would naturally take after that, but i wanted specific confirmation i suppose

Beside the two threads that Renee mentioned, I've put together a chart giving the weights taken from those threads - it's a work in progress but at the moment my genealogy work is taking precedence over other things. Even incomplete it shows that your girl is well withing the 'norm' for her age ... And welcome from the Big Bend area of Texas ... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford

Hey uncommon! I think we all take too much concern over our dogs size, weight, etc...Every dog just like every human is different. Some are skinny, some are large, some are fat, some are broad...and the list goes on...If your dog is healthy, happy and eating and voiding well I think there shouldn't be any cause for concerns. This can also be cemented if your vet gives your dog a bill of clean health as well =D But if you want to add to the list of small dogs, my male pup is 5mths 8days old and only weighs 24 lbs. So he's small But he's playful, healthy, eating and pooping well, so it's all good. I like him better this way anyways, cause we still get the oohs and ahhhs every single time we go out cause everybody still thinks he's only like 3 months old. HA! He also knows he can be naughty wherever we go cause people tend to give more leniency to puppies even though he's almost half a year old now! Cheers!
