That's what Suka has too. A tan/reddish/beige undercoat, black tipped guard hairs (brown middle and white near the skin)

Wow, that sable on that Mal looks almost exactly like the Suka's coat!

I think a specialist has to do it...like a special lab with specialists (if that makes sense).
Because DNA testing requires some equipment that probably wouldn't be available in their offices...

Could be. The face reminds me of an Agouti but the colour of the rest of the body is confusing me.

Both Keno and Klutch are registered as agoutis. Keno is almost identical to what your pup looks like. He had the brown/cream hue to his coat and the he went through the crazy dark/light/dark/light phase with his coat changing. I would honestly say he is a wolf grey today, but I did see his sire and he looked very similar to the first picture Ceara posted above and his dam was a light red. He was the only one in his litter that was 'agouti' the others were reds and greys.

Klutch on the other hand. His sire was a black/white with no silvering/shading to him and his dam was also a light red. Again, Klutch was the only one to be 'agouti' and he looks very similar to his aunt who is an agouti as well. He is still growing and changing, but his coat is a lot more dirtier looking than Keno's has ever been. He has, as someone said, the look that he laid in urine or tea. I have had numerous people ask me if he needed a bath. He also doesn't have any bright white markings, his are more dilute or cream. So by my guess, Klutch could be an agouti.

Huskies like to keep us guessing with their coats.

Ziva had a lot as a puppy like most...not entirely sure what she's going to turn out to be still (has a lot of brown in spots), but judging by the rest of her, we think she'll be wolf gray/white

The pictures I posted? The red and the pup (middle picture) are half sisters. The dark girl (first picture) is their mother.

How old? Completely stunning.

Rose (red) is I believe 2 (or turning 2). Echo is 1 (middle). and Wylie (top) passed away.

Ok so here is a updated pic of my pup at 5 weeks old.. It really shows his coat good. so from this picture what do you guys think? Agouti or something else?

I think he looks like an agouti now, but I have a feeling his coat is going to lighten up and fade. I hope he stays agouti (one of my favorite coat colors).

i do know that his moms solid tan spots did fade when she hit 2 about but i dont know if the rest of his coat will cause the mom is unique looking.. back except tan markings on her face

My guy is agouti/ white according to the breeder. His white has also turned into more and more tan/cream undercoat. But here is a picture of him at 4 months:

A banded coat is not necessarily significant of agouti or not. My black and white's hair is banded.

See to me your pup is a wolf gray or a sable (would depend on what the "tan" color of the undercoat really is) with a dark face.

But it also goes back to me saying how most people assume that if a dog has a dark face/mask - it's an agouti

Honestly, I wouldn't classify any of the dogs aside from the ones that Ceara posted as Agouti. There's a lot more to them then the banded hairs.

Kavik is an AKC puppy registered as an agouti, and was listed as one by the breeder. His mom's dam was an agouti/white (Where I assume the gene comes from) while his mom is mostly black with some white. His dad is gray/white and his lineage doesn't list an agouti. I'm not sure if both parents need to carry the gene.

Kavik is 8 weeks old right now and I expect his fur will go through a lot of changes. It's hard to tell from the photo, but his paws are an off white, almost a very light yellowish cream color mixed with flecks of black. It looks like his paws are always dirty. You can't see from the front, but the back of his head and ears are reddish, plus a few bits on his legs.
